History of "The Yankee"
The evolution of this antenna has taken place throughout several years of development as each one was custom-built, one at a time, by a hobbyist builder. Improvements were ongoing, with new and better designs and components continuously added.

Word got around, "If you want a mobile antenna that is easy to tune and gets your signal out there on the air, you need one of these!"

Tom Brosamle - WBØYNX - had become one of the most avid fans of this style of screwdriver antenna while running one for two years. In January 2003, having the interest, mechanical ability, and necessary shop facility for production, Tom began manufacturing the antennas after purchasing the design rights for the one he had been using.

Changes? A few -- all positive!
Manufacturing is now done in T&S Enterprises' Sioux City, Iowa, shop. Prototype machine work was performed by a former Sioux Tools Master Machinist. All machining and assembly is presently done in the T&S shop facility.

A metamorphosis has taken place, like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. Instead of antennas made one at a time, with resulting variances in each, we produce them in quantity, to a rigid set of standards, in two models. Better machine tolerances, uniform materials, and a higher degree of finish, is the result.

Five powder coated color options have recently been added to the 2" 10-80 model -- black, white, red, blue and silver.

Ultimately, this finely precisioned antenna deserved its own unique identity -- thus the addition of a name -- "The Yankee."

Our goal at Mobile Amateur HQ is threefold -- quality of appearance and performance, customer service and satisfaction, and pride of ownership -- all at an affordable price!

Installation Examples

Series #1 (stainless) 10-80 Model shown on the left. Discontinued 10-160 "old-style" Model shown on the right, both above & below, to illustrate mountings on an SUV and an 18-wheeler.
The Yankee is at home equally on both "play" and "work" vehicles.
This is KØEFK's installation of our latest, black, 10-80 model -- exterior -- and interior views, showing how unobtrusively the radio, antenna & controller can be mounted with a minimum of hardware.
This is the original purchased antenna that Tom ran for 3 years -- trouble-free. It has since been upgraded to one of our own Yankees, but with the same unique ball-mount installation.

Kits for both include base antenna unit, control box, and match box. You supply your own whip, coax, hook-up wire, and where necessary, mounting bracket.

Mounting
Requirements are simple -- any horizontal, flat, 3.5" diameter surface, in which a 3/8" hole can be drilled, with access to the underside for placement of a washer and lock nut. Possibilities include a simple plate attached to a trailer hitch, a pickup box bed rail, a bracket fabricated to attach to any body part, etc. The attaching point simply must provide suitable strength to support the wind load of the coil and whip. The base of the new series antennas is isolated from ground and no further isolation is necessary. Good electrical ground at this point or within close proximity is essential. Added cosmetics, such as chrome plating, are always your option.
